A new BCPL location is on its way!
The Nichols Branch Library building project officially broke ground on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 and is expected to open during the current winter season. The new library will be approximately 7,600 square feet and will provide much-needed service to the west end of Bullitt County.
The location of the new branch was purposefully selected to be near the elementary school to make library resources readily available and to help facilitate future collaborations. Key features of the building plan include a meeting room, two study rooms, generous open seating, and a cozy sunroom where patrons can settle in with a book, magazine, or homework. In homage to an old-fashioned schoolhouse, the library will also feature a literacy bell, which will be rung on special occasions to help encourage reading and participation in activities like BCPL’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.
The floor plan is designed to be highly flexible to allow for purpose-based configurations to accommodate special events and different community needs as they evolve over time. Perhaps most notable and beneficial to the community, the new building will feature a 24-hour access vestibule that will allow the community to enjoy internet access and a selection of books and movies for checkout even when the main building is closed.
