Kuvebo! are drumming their way to Hillview Branch Library!

Come enjoy–and participate in–West African music, singing, and dancing! Kuvebo! will bring West Africa to you with this immersive experience. Along the way, the artists demonstrate traditional drumming styles, help you learn and participate in playing drums and other support percussion instruments, and explain the cultural background behind the performance. Whether you are interested in learning more about West Africa or simply want to play the djembe drums, join us for an amazing musical experience.

Performer backgrounds:
Veteran dancer Hamidou Koivogui’s home country of Guinea is the destination for participants, who learn to sing, dance, and drum a popular celebration rhythm called KuKu! Now living in Louisville, Kentucky, Hamidou brings his music and dance traditions to our communities, with experienced artist-educator collaborators and dedicated students. Hamidou Koivogui and Gregory Acker co-teach West African drum and dance at workshops for students and offer professional development and team-building to many professional groups. Their work is included as part of the Bearing Witness Holocaust Education Program, by the Kentucky Center’s Arts in Education Program. They are also a part of teacher and administrative professional development sessions. Both artists are affiliated with VSA Kentucky (arts for students with disabilities and their peers), and Gregory is also rostered with the Kentucky Arts Council. Kuvebo! performs for festivals, concerts, and in many different public parks.
