What Is Science in Play2Go?

Science in Play2Go is built around the twin concepts of open-ended play and loose parts—materials that can be reimagined in countless ways. Rather than following instructions or reaching one “right” answer, children lead their own learning experiences through play.

This approach supports early STEAM learning while encouraging creativity, collaboration, and confidence. The exhibit is adaptable, inclusive, and designed so children of all abilities can participate and thrive.

Explore the Exhibit Stations

Stations at this location include the experiences below. Activities are open-ended, so each visit can feel a little different.

⚙️ Ball Fall

Using a Velcro wall, chutes, tunnels, and spinning wheels, children construct pathways for balls to travel—encouraging prediction, experimentation, and hands-on engineering.

🏗️ Build Your World (Blue Blocks)

Large blue foam blocks invite children to engineer towers, bridges, cities, and imaginative worlds. As they stack, balance, and design, children practice collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

🧱 Kapla Blocks

Stack it, stretch it, and see what stays up! Using simple wooden planks, children experiment with balance and gravity as they build towers, bridges, and creative structures. With no connectors or fasteners, this activity invites trial and error, patience, and playful problem-solving—where even a small change can lead to a big surprise.

💡 Light Bright

A giant light board with colorful pegs allows children to create glowing patterns, pictures, and designs while exploring shapes, symmetry, and creative expression.

🔬 Science Depot

Science Depot is a hands-on exploration space built around the idea of Explore, Create, and Share. Activities rotate regularly and invite children to investigate real science concepts using age-appropriate tools and materials. Designed to spark curiosity and family interaction, Science Depot encourages children to ask questions, test ideas, and talk about what they discover.

🛒 Shapes & Stuff Store

A playful, imaginative shopping experience where children explore shapes, colors, textures, and patterns through dramatic play. This station supports early math, spatial reasoning, and language development.

Why Play-Based Science Matters

When children learn through play and discovery, learning sticks. Science in Play2Go taps into children’s natural curiosity, allowing them to ask questions, test ideas, and learn through doing. Each visit can be a completely new experience—encouraging families to return, explore again, and keep the wonder alive.

For Families & Caregivers

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to play alongside their children. Asking open-ended questions like “What do you think will happen if…?” or “How could you change this?” helps deepen learning and spark meaningful conversations that extend beyond the exhibit and into everyday life.
