Concerned about the opioid epidemic? Want to know how you can help?

Join Peer Support Specialist Stan Milburn in a safe environment free of judgment to learn how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose. Participants will receive certification training to administer Naloxone, an overdose antidote medication that can block the effects of opioids on the brain and restore breathing. Certification will include administration of the nasal spray and the intermuscular injection, along with the information you need to proceed after administering the medicine.

An overdose can occur anywhere. Whether you are concerned about someone you love or just want to be prepared, this training will help you be ready in an emergency situation and will provide an overview of the Good Samaritan laws regulating the assistance you can provide. The presentation will conclude with a Q & A session.

ABOUT STAN MILBURN

I am person in longterm recovery and what that means to me is that since January 9th, 2014 I have not abused drugs or alcohol. After completing long term treatment I was offered an entry-level position working in recovery and found that was my passion, and I finally found a purpose in my life. I was fortunate to work at several different treatment facilities that gave me the experience of working with different populations from various demographics. I finally found myself in the position I’m in now. I am lead Peer Support Specialist at Centerstone Addiction Recovery Center.

I also enjoy volunteering my free time working with a nonprofit organization called YPR which stands for Young Peoples Recovery. We offer anyone young at heart opportunities to make the most of their recovery. We host events that show people how to have fun without drugs and alcohol through events like Ultimate Frisbee, dodgeball, cookouts, and bonfires. We also work with the community to give back by forming relationships with local law enforcement representatives, hitting the streets cleaning up syringes left on the ground, and working with the Kentucky Harm Reduction Coalition and Louisville Health Department facilitating NARCAN trainings to teach people how to administer Naloxone, an opioid overdose reversal medicine.

For adults ages 18 and up.
Just drop in. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Questions? E-mail [email protected].
