ABOUT JUNETEENTH
A holiday commemorating Black freedom, Juneteenth marks news of the Emancipation Proclamation reaching enslaved Black people in Texas on June 19, 1865 and their subsequent liberation—more than two and a half years after the Proclamation. The observance of Juneteenth is about the journey and achievement of Black individuals, the many contributions they make in improving society for all, and the ongoing fight for equality. It is a time for rejoicing and reflection.
