Poetry is ordinary language raised to the Nth power. Poetry is boned with ideas, nerved and blooded with emotions, all held together by the delicate, tough skin of words.  –Paul Engle

Explore the beauty of language and writing in a no-pressure poetry workshop with local author Lana Dean Helm. No experience required! Simply settle in with a hot beverage and let your creativity loose under the direction of our in-house poetry advisor. Each session will include instruction, brainstorming, and guided writing exercises. Plus, there will be time for feedback and questions to provide inspiration and enhance your skills.

Writing supplies will be furnished, but participants are welcome to bring their own supplies or laptops. Light refreshments, including coffee and tea, will be provided.

For ages 18 and up.
Registration is required for a select number of reserved seats. Additional seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Questions? E-mail [email protected].

Lana is a different kind of animal. She writes with no abandon, selects an accent of the day in which to speak, and anxiously awaits the moment her superpowers will be revealed. She is hoping these will include time travel, flying, and breathing underwater. As long as she is alive and awake, she will write to live and live to write. Her work has been published in a variety of anthologies and literary magazines, including Civilized BeastsThe Mythos; Wolf Warriors IV;  Sediments Literary-Arts Journal; Along the Shore, Poems of the Sea; Halcyon Days Magazine; The San Pedro River Review; You Are Here: the Journal of Creative Geography; Tailfins & Sealskins, An Anthology of Water Lore;  Rose Red ReviewNew Voices: Ivy Tech’s Student Literary Journal; and The Louisville Cardinal.
