This month at Mt. Washington, we’re discussing Circling the Sun by Paula McLain.
DESCRIPTION: Set in the early 1900s, Circling the Sun is a fictional biography of British-born aviatrix Beryl Markham, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic from east to west. Following the departure of her mother and brother, Beryl grows up with her father in Kenya among the local Kipsigis tribe, who teach her to work with horses. As she gets older, Beryl strains against the rules and expectations of society, eventually becoming a horse trainer before finding a new passion in aviation.
