MEETING MINUTES
January 14, 2003
����������� The Bullitt County Public Library Board of Trustees met Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at the Ridgway Memorial Library in Shepherdsville.� Those present were Dolorse Ashby, Joyce Manning, Donald Cobb, Randy Matlow, Pam Polston, and Judy T. Jackson.� Donald Cobb called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.� Nelda Moore arrived at 5:40 p.m.
����������� The minutes were read.� Joyce Manning made the motion to accept the minutes as written.� Dolorse Ashby seconded the motion.� The motion carried.
����������� The minutes of the called meeting on December 17th, 2003, were read.� Dolorse Ashby made the motion to accept the minutes as written.� Joyce Manning seconded the motion.� The motion carried.
����������� The Treasurer's Report was given.� Joyce Manning made the motion to accept the Treasurer's Report as given.� Pam Polston seconded the motion.� The motion carried.� The Treasurer's Report will be filed for audit.
����������� Regional
Director's Report:
����������� Nelda handed out the new calendar from the regional office.� Because of the cut back in funds, there will be only three trustee's workshops this year.� There will be at Somerset, Pennyrile State Park, and Natural Bridge.
����������� The book grant funds will also be cut.� The Bookmobile grant is now gone.� The year 2004 may see cuts in state aid.� The book grant cut should not impact us too much this time around.
����������� Director's
Report:
����������� Selling the old Mt. Washington building is in the works.� The attorneys are working out the final paper work.� Randy and Bill have been working at cleaning out the building.�
����������� Dolorse Ashby made the motion to enter into Executive Session as to KRS 61.805-61.850.� Pam Polston seconded the motion.� The Executive Session began at 5:50 p.m.� Joyce Manning made the motion to come out of Executive Session at 6:00 p.m� Dolorse Ashby seconded the motion.� Dolorse Ashby made the motion to pursue a "friendly lawsuit" against the Susan Craik Trust.� Pam Polston seconded the motion.� The motion carried.� The Board is asking for this "friendly lawsuit" in order to use the bequest as we see fit.
����������� The Library Association has filed a suit to try to get Anthem to give us shares of stock from the demutualization.� Randy attended a meeting pertaining to this just this morning.� He will keep the Board advised on the progress.
����������� Randy handed out to the Board a sample of a multimedia survey.� We did one several years ago.� He feels it is time to reassess our patron's needs in this area.� The Board agreed this would be a good idea.� Randy also passed out a copy of the stats for circulation and gave the Board an overview of them.�
����������� As the Board knows, we had a "fine amnesty" for the month of December.� We collected canned goods in lieu of fines on books.� Last year, we donated these to the Mt. Washington area.� This year we are going to donate them to the Lebanon Junction area.
����������� The Poetry contest was a success.� The awards ceremony last night had a turn out of over 200 people.� We will be publishing the poems in a book from.� Tezeta Lyons, the person from KDLA that oversees these grants, came to the program.�
����������� Randy met with Publisher's Printing this past week about the progress of the wireless network.� We were going to have to rent one of the towers (north of LJ) from a local radio station.� Publishers' wants to use the wireless network for their back up system for their company.� They have decided that they would rather purchase the land needed for the tower site.� This will help us by letting us use it for free instead of having to pay rent.� We have filed without phone lines with the e-rate people for the next year, so we need to have this in place by 7-1-03.�
����������� Dolorse Ashby made the motion to adjourn.� Pam Polston seconded the motion.� The meeting was adjourned at 6:18 p.m.
����������� The next meeting will be February 11th, at Ridgway Memorial Library, at 5:30 p.m.
