We need your help for a good cause!
This fall and early winter, we are once again taking part in Drop Your Drawers @ the Library, a cooperative effort with libraries all across the state. This project seeks to ensure that every child shows up to school and stays in school for the whole school day in clean underwear that fits. Underwear is a basic need and one that is easily forgotten. Schools are handing out underwear on a daily basis to children who need a clean pair because of accidents at school or issues at home. Because parents are often unable to bring fresh underwear to their children during school hours, accidents can cause children to miss valuable learning time in the classroom.
Drop Your Drawers @BCPL in November and December
What you can do: Drop off packages of NEW underwear at any BCPL location. Boys and girls sizes 4–16 needed.
Our goal: Collect 5,000 pairs of children’s underwear. All donations will go to local public elementary schools to help replenish their supply of emergency underpants and to provide direct assistance to each school’s Family Resource Center.
The campaign officially begins November 1st and continues through December 30th. But wait… You can begin helping now!
Local businesses and organizations can be superheroes too!
Drop Your Drawers @ the Field— With the help of Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League, we are doing a little pre-gaming! Throughout the month of October, you can drop your drawers at the field, where collection points will be set up during youth football games. Last year, youth football participants dropped a total of 185 pairs of underwear at the admission gate!
Additional Organizations—We are encouraging other civic-minded businesses and organizations to help with our cause by collecting packages of underpants from their employees or members. Large group donations should be dropped off at Bullitt County Public Library NO LATER than Monday, December 16th to allow library staff adequate time to count donations. Drop Your Drawers officially ends at 5:00 PM on December 30th.
QUESTIONS? Call Stephanie Lewis at 543-7675 ext. 2302 or e-mail Tracy Weikel at email@example.com. We can provide promotional materials for our campaign on request, and in some cases we can also make arrangements to pick up large donations from your business or organization.
A total of 2,541 pairs of underwear were collected during our inaugural Drop Your Drawers drive in 2018. Every donation was greatly appreciated by BCPL, Bullitt County Schools, and the students and families that were helped by your generosity. However, the entire supply was gone by the end of the 2018–2019 school year and the supply at the beginning of the current school year was completely depleted. BCPS needs more undies! This year, please help us reach our goal of 5,000 pairs.
