BULLITT COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

MEETING MINUTES

September 10, 2002

The Bullitt County Public Library Board of Trustees met Tuesday, September 10, 2002, at the new Mt. Washington Branch Library.  Those present were Donald Cobb, Joyce Manning, Dolorse Ashby, Brenda Roberts, Randy Matlow, and Judy T. Jackson.  Donald Cobb called the meeting to order at 5:34 p.m.  Nelda Moore joined the meeting at 5:42 p.m. and Pam Polston joined the meeting at 5:45 p.m.  Beverly Reeks, the Mt. Washington branch librarian, was also present.

The Minutes of the last meeting were read.  Brenda Roberts made the motion to accept the minutes as written.  Joyce Manning seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

The Treasurer's Report was given.  Dolorse Ashby made the motion to accept the Treasurer's Report as given.  Joyce Manning seconded the motion.  The motion carried.  The Treasurer's Report will be filed for audit.

            Regional Director's Report:

Since Nelda was late in arriving, the Regional Director's report was given at the end of the meeting.

            Library Director's Report:

The carpeting has been done at Ridgway Memorial and Dorothea Stottman Library.  We had figured on each library being closed for a week, but we were able to reopen Dorothea Stottman on Thursday, and Ridgway Memorial Library on Saturday.

We have not received the occupancy permit for the new Mt. Washington library, but all the other permits are complete.  We started the move on Monday.  We hope to open for business on Monday, September 16th.  A date for the open house was discussed.  The Board decided to have the open house on Sunday, September 29th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Our sign probably won't be here until October.  The circulation desk has a few adjustments, but will be done while the library is open.

The annual report is finished.  A copy was handed out to each Board member.  After reviewing, if anyone has any questions, we can address them at the next meeting.

The wireless project is at the point for us to start purchasing the needed equipment.  The grant money needs to be encumbered by September 30th.

We have received a second grant.  This one is for our Poetry contest and workshops.  The award amount is $3837.

Our tax rate will be held Thursday, September 19th, at 5:30 p.m.   The location will be at Ridgway Memorial Library.

Our custodial maintenance person is still out on workman's comp.  His wife passed away last week.  He will be on workman's comp for another three weeks at least.  We may need to look at hiring a custodial assistant if he will have to be off for a more extended time.

Dolorse Ashby made a motion to go into executive session to discuss the director's evaluation as stated in KRS 61.810(6) at 5:55 p.m.  Pam Polston seconded the motion.

Joyce Manning made the motion to come out of executive session at 6:08 p.m.  Pam Polston seconded the motion.  No action taken.

            Regional Director's Report:

Nelda reminded the Board about the Trustee's Dinner in Elizabethtown on September 11th.  She promised it would be very entertaining.

Pam Polston made the motion to adjourn the meeting.  Dolorse Ashby seconded the motion.  The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.  The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 8th, 2002, at the Dorothea Stottman Library in Hillview, at 5:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
